Inaugural Scarborough Tattoo Show

At the beginning of June we got chance to visit our favourite type of tattoo show, one by the seaside. It was the inaugural Scarborough Tattoo Show, organised by the lovely Neil from The Tattoo Sanctuary and Sam, Sue and Rick of H2 Events.

Held at Scarborough Spa, a gorgeous grade II listed building in South Bay, the event saw almost 50 of the countries top tattoo artists come together for the weekend.

Our very own Gray won two awards, best large colour for this barn owl on Phil, and best large colour for Claire’s bottom/thigh.

As you’d expect from any tattoo show, their was plenty of other entertainment throughout the weekend. The girls from monster cirque were busy with their entertaining brand of high flying, pole spinning, and fire manipulating. Thanks to Colin Grist for use of the image.

It was good to see a wide range of vendors, from our old favourite Burning Sensations Pyrography, to the talented Art by Angie Foster.

The weekend also saw the Lift For Cancer Seaside Showdown. This dead-lift only competition raised almost £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and the team behind it have raised almost £14,000 so far this year. Their next outing is a power-lifting competition based at the Imjin Military Barracks on the 10th July 2016, which will see more than 30 UK soldiers competing and raising money for various cancer charities. They also told us about a unique cross-fit competition which will take place in September time, with further details yet to be announced.

The highlight of the weekend for me was the chance to see Gray being tattooed by Paul Talbot.

We’d like to thank the organisers for a great weekend, everyone we spoke to said they really enjoyed the weekend. Plans are already underway to hold the show again next year.

If you’re based in Nottingham and you prefer your tattoo shows a bit closer to home, don’t forget tickets are now available for the third Robin Hood Tattoo Festival this august.
